We wanted to give our fans a brief history of the American classic-the T-shirt.

It all began in 1901 when the P.H. Hanes Knitting Company introduced a two-piece men's underwear set for catalogue sale. The first group to actually utilize this type of clothing was US Navy in 1913. The Navy issued the now known T-shirt to its sailors in order to avoid exposing the chest area as previously shown in the uniforms through the V-neck. The new shirt featured a "crew" neck and short sleeves.

As sailors returned home on leave, civilians quickly began wearing the shirts, as they were very cool and comfortable. The price at this time was 24 cents. By World War II 12 million men were wearing the Navy's tee, AKA "skivvies."

By the 1920's, "T-shirt" had become an official word in the American English language with its inclusion in Merriam-Webster's Dictionary. By W.W. II, both the Navy and the Army had included the T-shirt as standard issue. The armed services began stenciling rank and company on T-shirts. About the same time, universities began using the T-shirt for fraternity logos. The first corporate advertising on a T-shirt appeared in the 1960s, when Budweiser featured a can of Bud on the company's tees.

The T-shirt also made its mark in Hollywood. John Wayne, Marlon Brando and James Dean all donned the classic garment.

Since then the T-shirt has become an American favorite. Many companies sell the shirts to promote their products. Bands sell T- shirts to fans. The T-shirt is a vital asset to the American wardrobe.

We hope that you enjoy your Junebug T-shirt, when you wear it remember what a long wonderful history follows it!
